2005 337 Cabernet Sauvignon

Published by mike at 6:31 pm under Buy-It, Cabernet Sauvignon

My wife and I learned about 337 at a wine tasting at HyVee two years ago. At that time the vintage was 2004. The story is that the grapes used for this wine are a clone of a French Cabernet called 337.

At that time it was our favorite wine and we discovered it about the time that we couldn’t get La Crema Pinot Noir. La Crema is back but is now an over-$18 wine. Both the 04 and 05 337’s were fantastic bold wines.

The current vintage generally available is 2006 but we haven’t been overly impressed with it.

Andrew dropped an 05 off yesterday for my wife as payment for an embroidery project. So we had it with grilled steaks this evening. We hadn’t had 05 in a long time.

This wine is amazing. Much better than we remembered it. We finished the bottle in a sitting. Full-body fruity plum and berry, spicy and smoky with a kind of sweet finish. Very low tannins.

If I had the opportunity to purchase 05 337 again I certainly would. Sherry wants me to look for more.
